Breaded Fish Tacos

There are many variations of fish tacos out there. The reason I love this recipe is for the adults, we can load up our tacos however we want to enjoy them. Yet, for the kids, they can dip the fish in some ketchup and you can call them homemade fish sticks! Win Win!

There are a few things that take this recipe to the next level. First it’s getting the fish golden brown while also making sure they are cooked through. Second, the chili mayo sauce….my goodness this stuff rocks. Third, the homemade Mango Salsa! So let’s talk about them.

For the Fish: It doesn’t matter what type of whitefish you use (I used Atlantic Cod). As you prep the fish, I recommend slicing into strips about a 1/2″ thick by 3″ inches long. The ensures they quickly and also fit on the corn tortillas.

When it comes to cooking them, first make sure your oil is around 325-350 degrees. Drop 1 piece of fish in first. If it browns immediately you know it is too hot. If it barely bubbles, it’s not hot enough. Once they start cooking, it should take around 3-5 minutes to cook through depending on how thick you slice them.

Chili Mayo – Very basic in ingredients and yet it adds amazing flavor! In a small dish add some mayo and your favorite chili sauce. My favorite is Fix Hot Sauce – Chili Pepper Sauce. It is SOOOOO GOOOD!

Pro tip for spreading – add it to a Ziploc bag, cut off a small piece of 1 corner, and squeeze out through the hole!

Mango Salsa – If there is one thing you don’t skip for the recipe this is it. This salsa pulls out so many delicious flavors when paired with the breading and the fish. Best part is, it is only 5 ingredients to make. Check out the full recipe here – Mango Salsa Recipe

Corn Tortillas – I have a love/hate relationship with corn tortillas. If you don’t heat them up enough, they break apart and dump everything all over your plate. If you overcook them, you can barely cut through them with you teeth.

My solution is to grill them. After about 30 seconds per side they get a night little char but are also tender to eat!

Gluten Free – Do you need this meal to be gluten free? First off, make sure that you use gluten free bread crumbs. My favorite brand for these is Schar! The only other thing you need to be conscious of are the tortillas. Either use gluten free or Corn tortillas and you are good to go!
